Teaching requires the use of media; because of this is necessary to know them in depth in order to use them and carry out any task which is related with their design, production and evaluation. This knowledge, basic for a teaching expert or educationist, will be equally useful for teacher of any level or specialty. This subject can be an interesting free optional subject for students of any degree who is considering the possibility of a future career in teaching.

This subject discusses the basic criteria of didactic media, taking into account the difference between resources in general and teaching resources in particular. These basic criteria help to understand the task of design, production and evaluation of resources and media which are directly used in teaching and training situations.

Design and evaluation of educational resources presents a practical approach. Its main target is to students to be able to carry out the development of any task related with the design, production and evaluation of resources in the educative process.

The syllabus of this subject from the studies plan of Pedagogy must seen in relation to the basic knowledge acquired by students about the teaching process and the use of resources for teaching. It has 4,5 credits and lasts four months.

The teaching requires of use of resources and it is essential to know them in depth, so as to be able to use them as to carry out tasks related to their design, production and evaluation. This knowledge, basic for an educationalist, will be useful for teacher at any level and specialty.

  • To know the influence of resources and media in teaching understood as a communicative process.
  • To understand the several kinds of media and resources, and their characteristics.
  • To develop the ability to make decisions with respect to curricular integration of the resources.
  • To know the educative criteria of the design of resources for the teaching.
  • To assess the differences between the several medium of presentation of information.
  • Introduce design and production tasks for didactic resources to the student.

Methodology contemplates a tele-training model based on the individuation of the teaching and the autonomous work of the student through the virtual campus (SUMA Docente). It will have two face to face sessions which be obligatory: an initial session of introduction and a final session of assessement.

It is important to point out that teaching materials which are provided to students will have a hipertextual and multimedia nature. This  will make it possible for  the student to adapt them to their interests and previous knowledge, and will not depend on previious criteria which conditions a view of the contents. Morever It will be more encouraging and useful for the learning to have the material in electronic format because the student may visualize didactic materials from several perspectives and will serve as practical examples of the theoretical principles analyzed.

During this four month period, we will use teaching strategies related to three didactic situations in a classroom: individual work, group work and massive group.

  • Individual tasks will consider the use of the several of SUMA (tutorial, chat, exanet) tools. They will be activities oriented towards the learning and transfer of knowledge. Each student must create a portfolio during the four month period and give it in the end of the course.
  • We will use forums and the student´s content folder for carrying out of group work. A collaborative activity will be clear and will require the organization of group and demand communication among all members of the group
  • With respect to the third situation we will organize a theoretical presentation through videoconferencing so the students can connect by IP from their home or work

We think that the implementation of these methods is necessary in an open, flexible and adaptable teaching situation. It is advisable to implement a broad collection of strategies and tools to answer the different learning styles and requirements.
