Evaluation and diagnosis of speech and hearing is a very important topic in the therapist speech area, due to the increasing prevalence of voice disorders and hearing impairments. Thus, the curriculum for this degree includes various courses (Clinical Examination of voice and hearing, speech therapy intervention in voice disorders and hearing) that form a framework of study that enables students to develop their training professional work in this broad field (evaluation, prevention and/or rehabilitation).

PREREQUISITES AND KNOWLEDGE RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND

It is recommended to have studied before:

  • Anatomy of the organs of hearing and language.

  • Physiology of the organs of hearing and language.

  • Clinical examination of voice and hearing.

 

COURSE OVERVIEW

Evaluation and diagnosis of speech and hearing is a very important topic in the therapist speech area, due to the increasing prevalence of voice disorders and hearing impairments. Thus, the curriculum for this degree includes various courses (Clinical Examination of voice and hearing, speech therapy intervention in voice disorders and hearing) that form a framework of study that enables students to develop their training professional work in this broad field (evaluation, prevention and/or rehabilitation).

 

AIMS

The course examine the process of evaluating voice and hearing from a global perspective, with the purpose to establish a diagnosis and develop a dynamic process that enables the therapeutic approach. The course presents and discuss the procedures, tools and techniques for assessing differents aspects of speech and hearing. Also, will be trained the skills needed to:

  • collect and integrate diagnostic information,

  • useful information in order to design a treatment plan, and

  • trasmit information to different professionals, family and social agents.

 

METHODOLOGY

Teaching methods: lectures, group work, workshops on micro-classroom, theoretical and practical seminars and laboratory practice.
